The Founder
Datin Isma, the founder and chef behind KANTAN, first became widely known through her instructional cooking videos on @masakwithpassion Instagram, where she shared authentic Malaysian recipes with warmth and sincerity. Her passion for preserving traditional flavours and teaching others how to cook earned her a loyal community of more than 400,000 followers.
Loved for her genuine personality and uncompromising authenticity in every recipe, many of her followers encouraged her to open a restaurant so they could experience her cooking beyond the screen. In September 2023, that vision became reality with the opening of the first KANTAN outlet in Plaza Damas.
Today, KANTAN has expanded to two outlets, including Kota Damansara. While opportunities for rapid expansion continue to grow, Datin Isma remains committed to one core principle — quality and consistency always come first. Every dish served reflects the same care, flavour, and authenticity that built her reputation from the very beginning.
Her long-term vision is to introduce KANTAN to the world, bringing authentic Malaysian cuisine to an international audience while staying true to the heritage and recipes that make it special.
